Most of these public-private partnership colleges (PPP) in Canada are run by Asian-origin people, and students from Punjab preferred these colleges for various reasons.

According to the latest announcement by Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC), students studying in public-private colleges in the North American country will no longer get work permits.

As per information available from various immigration consultants in Punjab, there are 16 such public-private colleges, out of which 14 are in Ontario province alone and one each in Alberta and Manitoba. These colleges are located in North York, Toronto, Brampton and a few other locations in Ontario province.

On average, these colleges used to admit around 2,000 students, and since no work permit will be given to the students studying here, nearly 20,000 admissions will be affected. “Once these colleges are no longer in demand, admissions will be hit by roughly 35 per cent. These colleges used to work as a franchise unit of public colleges and most of them had opened in the past three-four years when applications saw a surge during Covid,” Nitin Chawla, Director of Ludhiana-based Kapri Immigration Inc, told The Indian Express.
